About

Dr. Anirban Deep Banerjee is an eminent neurosurgeon with extensive experience in the fields of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery as well as Skull-base Neurosurgery.

Earlier, he was working as a Senior Consultant – Neurosurgery & In-Charge: Movement Disorder Clinic, Institute of Neurosciences, Apollo Kolkata. After completing his MBBS from University of Calcutta, Dr Banerjee completed his Neurosurgery residency (M.Ch.) from NIMHANS, post which he successfully completed AANS-recognized prestigious neurosurgical Fellowships in USA: Skull-base Neurosurgery (LA State University) and Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery (Cleveland Clinic).

His main fields of interest include Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgical procedures for intractable movement disorders (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, Essential Tremor, Dystonia), spastic disorders (e.g. Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Post head-injury, Post spinal-cord injury, Post stroke), psychiatric disorders (e.g. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and epilepsy. He had pioneered and established Eastern India’s first advanced Movement Disorder Clinic, a first-of-its-kind comprehensive state-of-the-art Neuromodulation & Functional Neurosurgery ‘centre of excellence’.

To date, he has experience of over 400 cases of neuro-modulation surgeries including over 200 cases of Deep Brain Stimulation surgery (brain-pacemaker implants) and is credited with published innovations in establishing novel skull-base neurosurgical approaches. Additionally, he also has extensive experience in comprehensive state-of-the-art micro-neurosurgical and neuro-endoscopic management of thousands of neurosurgical patients.

He has numerous peer-reviewed publications in reputed international & national journals and neurosurgical text-books.

He is frequently invited as visiting-faculty for conducting live surgical workshops and establishing deep brain stimulation surgery programs at various medical institutes of repute, both India and abroad. At the official invitation of the government of Bangladesh, he started and established the deep brain stimulation surgery program at the National Institute of Neurosciences, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is also invited for numerous national & international invited-speaker presentations, including Faculty to the prestigious WFNS World Congresses of Neurosurgery.
