What is Cochlear Implant?
A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that helps people with severe hearing loss or deafness hear sounds by directly stimulating the auditory nerve, bypassing damaged hair cells in the inner ear. It consists of an external microphone and processor that capture and convert sound into electrical signals, which are then transmitted to an internal receiver and electrode array in the cochlea. The electrode array stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing users to perceive sound and speech. Cochlear implants have significantly improved communication and quality of life for many individuals with hearing impairments.
